This year, the star didn’t show up…
In the darkness of our days it didn’t show at the food bank,
In a climate of political confusion,
Some jubilant, others despairing,
There may, ( or so it was deemed)
Have been a better story to tell …
So the star was absent
To stories of deprivation, hungry children,
Cold damp homes, sanctions..
Absent to seeing community pulling together,
Sharing the little, making loaves and fishes come to life…
Enough for everyone, grace upon grace…
Grace bringing hope home,
Light in the darkness
Banishing the night…
And the star didn’t see it…
But another star did see….
And was seen, by wiser ones long ago
Who followed hope, grasped at grace,
And it brought light…
Light into darkness,
Finding light in the dirt and grime,
The dust and delusion
In a time of oppression…
One star shone…
In another time of oppression
The Star was nowhere to be found…
