in these days of division and fear,

teach me to love, to love

to love those I deem unlovable and unworthy,

to dare to trust that there are no barriers

to loves true reach.

in these days of violence and hatred,

teach me the way of peace,

not a false peace of quiet and tranquility,

but of a deep and abiding peace,

a peace that pushes me to action

to resist evil,

to speak up for good.

Just and merciful God,

in these days of half truths and lies,

teach me the way of truth,

not a brittle or broken truth,

but the truth that leads to a spacious gracious place

the truth

where love, peace, justice

and mercy dwell.
