blessed are the meek,
those who will not build walls,
but seek to reach out beyond themselves,
blessed are those who would
dare to allow their vulnerabilities
to open them to the other,
not seeking to defend themselves,
blessed are the poor;
those who know that they fall short
but strive for justice anyway,
blessed are those who hunger
for love to triumph over hate,
those who will give themselves away
for the sake of their neighbours near and far,
blessed are those who see beyond colour or race,
creed or gender, sexuality, ability, disability,
language, wealth or age,
but see instead the glorious diversity of humankind,
and seek to celebrate not divide,
blessed are those who hold their convictions lightly,
who are prepared to be proved wrong,
and respond with grace….
blessed are those whose desire is to
bless not curse,
who will speak out for truth,
who yearn for peace not power….
they are blessed, but this strange blessing
will be misunderstood, vilified , accused and cursed by some,
yet they are blessed…
5 1-2 When Jesus saw his ministry drawing huge crowds, he climbed a hillside. Those who were apprenticed to him, the committed, climbed with him. Arriving at a quiet place, he sat down and taught his climbing companions. This is what he said:
3 “You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.
( Matthew 5: 1-3)
