What made you weep
at Lazarus’ tomb,
You who were about to bring forth
life?
+
Did the deep darkness of death touch your soul as your heart
broke with the broken ones who met you there?
+
Timely or untimely death comes…
and all should mourn the loss of life,
whatever form it takes…
+
Perhaps we need to learn to weep,
to mourn, to wail, to wait with our injured souls
to acknowledge the bruising of our hearts…
+
Death cannot,
simply be dismissed,
will not be ignored…
+
So you mourned him before you
raised him…
+
Then later in the garden
you took time to mourn yourself,
to wrestle with the darkness,
not shrinking from the pain,
while others slow to follow slept!
+
So lead me through this valley,
sit shiva with me,
and bring your tears to soothe my aching soul…
+
Then, when I am ready feed me,
lead me,
and love me through to life…
